Edinburgh Printmakers

Having the opportunity to work with a world-class printmaking studio – which also happens to be on our doorstep – is something that every design studio dreams about. And helping them to define their offer for not only the artistic community, who have been using it for over 40 years, but also to funding councils and international audiences offered us a great challenge.

Our aim was to create a document that could address each audience, tell the Printmaker’s story in an appropriate and engaging way and look fantastic.

We decided to produce two documents. One would be a cost-effective brochure that could be handed out and picked up when visiting the Printmakers’ studio and the other was a limited edition packaged set of hand-printed loose-leaf prints to promote the Printmakers’ services to funders and the international printmaking community. Both documents covered the five main areas of print produced in the studio: relief, intaglio, lithography, screen printing and digital, as well as hand crafted versions of the Edinburgh Printmakers’ logo. The concept for the project was informed by the ‘language of printmaking’ – the process, materials and practices that Edinburgh Printmakers go through on a day-to-day basis.

Pleasingly both documents have gone on to win design awards for us. And Edinburgh Printmakers now have a clearly defined brand story and a series of documents that fit perfectly in their world.
